We are closing in on the start of school for the 2021-22 school year and we are so excited to see students again!

As always with the start of the school year there is a lot going on and a lot of information to share.  With that in mind please take a few minutes to look over this communication as we are hoping to categorize information and links by each topic and you can pick and choose what is relevant to you and your student.  9th Grade families please make sure to go all the way through as there is updated information regarding our Frosh Orientation Day.

Important Dates:

MHS 2021-22 Bell Schedule:  Please note the updated schedule linked below.  As MHS and our district move to a Block Schedule for the first time we adjusted what was previously sent out to insure that we meet our instructional minutes, the biggest change is that school will be out at 3:35 instead of 3:30 Tuesday through Friday.

Student Schedules:  We hope that by now your student has received their physical schedule in the mail and or has accessed it through StudentVUE.  Here are a couple of important notes:

  1. For our incoming 9th grade students, we are still working on finalizing and balancing classes.  Please note that 9th graders will receive a final schedule on August 26 at our Freshmen Orientation
  2. If your student looks at their schedule and are missing one or more classes please contact their academic counselor to set an appointment as it could mean one of their course requests had a conflict or we did not have all of their course requests to create a full schedule
  3. If your student needs to switch a class, are interested in Independent Study as an option or have any other questions pertaining to their schedule please contact Mrs. Harmon or Mrs. Sahlberg as well.
Casey Harmon A-K 9/10th grade & M-Z 11/12th Grade
Anne Sahlberg L-Z 9/10th grade & M-Z 11/12th Grade

Technology:  Here are a few key pieces of information regarding Technology for the upcoming school year:

  • StudentVUE/ParentVUE- If you and or your student are having trouble accessing ParentVUE and StudentVUE please know that a physical letter will be arriving in the next few days with your login information and or you can always contact us for help.
  • District 1 to 1 Initiative - It is the intention of the district that all students will be provided a google chromebook during the 2021-22 school year to use in class and take home.  We believe that we will be able to provide these sometime in the fall.  What will help this process is if any students still in possession of a district chromebook from the 20-21 school year can turn it into the office ASAP so that we can update them and check them back out.

Athletics:  Fall sports are in full swing and coaches have communicated with their teams practice times moving forward and here a few pieces of information:

  1. If you are a student who has just registered at MHS and are interested in playing sports please contact our Athletic Director Ashley Lankila at to connect you with the coach of the sport you are interested in and make sure you have all the correct paperwork.
  2. We are still looking for a Girls Tennis Coach as well as a JV Volleyball Coach, if you are interested or know someone who would be please also contact Mrs. Lankila
  3. On Wednesday, August 18, the Humboldt Del Norte League met to finalize COVID protocols for athletics moving forward for Fall Sports based on CDPH and Humboldt County guidelines.  Here are the important pieces of information for our Athletes and their families:
  • Beginning the week of August 23 we will be rapid testing our unvaccinated student athletes twice a week (tests are available for our vaccinated athletes as well
  • Masks must be worn by players, staff and spectators for indoor sports (Volleyball)
  • Masks must be worn by staff, players on the sidelines and spectators for all outdoor sports
  • Look for more information from our district in the next few days regarding max capacity for both indoor and outdoor events

Communication:  Over the past few weeks we have appreciated families reaching out to us letting us know when they are not receiving emails, texts or calls from us.  We want to make sure that you are receiving all of these communications when we send them.  If you are still not receiving communication from us please take the following steps:

  1. For email please check your spam folder as some of our families have found our communications there
  2. Contact Christine Willfong at and she will go over the information we have on file to make sure it is all correct (usually the root of the issue)

------For 9th Grade Families Only - Important Information Regarding Frosh Orientation------

MHS has a long standing tradition of working with our student LINK leaders to welcome our incoming 9th grade students to Mack High.  Ms. Karen Myers and her team have been working hard to make sure that tradition continues this year this coming Thursday.  We also recognize that our students, staff and community’s safety are of the utmost importance.  With that in mind please note that we are taking the following steps and adjustments to that day:

Safety Measures for Frosh Orientation for students:

Safety Measures and adjustments for Parent/Guardians:

  • All students and staff will be masked during the event
  • When in the MHS Gym students will be spread out to observe social distancing
  • When in classrooms as small groups students will be socially distanced
  • All team building activities will have no physical contact
  • Instead of an in person meeting in our Library we will host a virtual meeting from 5:00 to 5:30 pm through Zoom on Thursday August 26.  The Zoom link will be sent out that Thursday as well as posted on our website by 4:00 pm.  This will allow for parent/guardians to have time to arrive to our campus by 6:00 pm to join up with their student
  • We will have a BBQ at 6:00 pm for our 9th graders, parent/guardians and staff hosted by Panther Partners who will be masked and gloved and follow health guidelines for everyone’s safety
  • From 7:00 to 8:00 pm families will be able to tour the campus, meet staff and walk their student’s schedule.  Staff will meet families outside their classrooms rather than inside during this time.
  • Unless eating we ask that all students, families and staff remain masked during this event.

If you have any questions regarding Frosh Orientation please contact Karen Myers at if you have any questions regarding the parent orientation please contact Nic Collart at
